Lens Treatments

Lens treatments are functional enhancements that are incorporated into the lens during the manufacturing process. The treatments can improve vision, protect your eyes, enhance performance, and increase comfort. Multiple treatments can meet all of your vision needs. The following types of treatment and its benefit will help you determine which are best suited for your needs.

  • Anti-Reflective: Glare is a frequent but preventable complaint from eyeglass wearers everywhere. Intense reflections are distracting on a sunny day, and bright headlights can put drivers at risk at night.
An anti-reflective treatment blocks reflected light, which means less squinting while driving or working at a computer. In addition to reducing external reflections on the outside of lenses, an anti-reflective treatment applied to the inside of lenses decreases internal reflections. Internal reflections can also cause lenses to appear thicker than they are. As an additional benefit, most anti-reflective treatments have a special layer that prevents spots and makes them easier to clean.
  • Photochromic: Photochromic lenses are convenient because they are one pair of lenses that can perform two jobs. The lenses darken to make your eyes more comfortable by shielding them from bright sunlight, and if they include a treatment that blocks UV, the lenses can also protect your eyes from harmful UV light. The result is crystal-clear vision indoors and out.
A photochromic treatment is especially beneficial for light-sensitive eyeglass wearers, children, and outdoor enthusiasts. The treatment can be applied to nylon, polycarbonate, and other lens materials.
  • Polarized: Polarized sunglasses virtually eliminate bright light from reflective surfaces—a big plus for anyone who spends a lot of time on the road. Polarized sunglasses are becoming more and more popular, especially among sports lovers, because they eliminate glare, help block UV rays, and give outdoor enthusiasts an excellent value for their investment.
  • Scratch-Resistant: Eyeglasses are dropped, cleaned improperly, and sometimes stored hastily. Scratch-resistant treatments and technology can prevent scuffs and extend the life of your lenses. Protecting both sides of the lens with a scratch-resistant treatment will help your glasses withstand the rigors of everyday wear, and is especially important for children’s glasses.
  • UV Protection: Without proper protection, eyes are exposed to the sun’s harmful rays—a potential cause of cataracts and retinal damage. While plastic lenses block most ultraviolet light, a UV-light blocking treatment adds another layer of protection and completely shields eyes from UV rays.
  • Mirror: Applied to sunglasses, a mirror coating creates a highly reflective sheen on the outside of the lens. Mirrored glasses completely conceal the eye from external view, while only a slight gray or brown tint is visible to the wearer. Some people choose a mirror coating for aesthetic reasons, but mirrored lenses are also very functional. Outdoors, they reduce glare from flat surfaces, especially sand, water, and snow.
  • Tints: Tints, or filters, enhance your eyewear’s effectiveness in different lighting conditions. Each group or range of colors has a special application that improves clarity and contrast in a variety of settings.

Benefits
Brown/Amber/Copper
Lenses tinted with brown, amber, or copper shades sharpen contrast and reduce glare. These colors filter blue light, making them a natural choice for outdoor sports lovers. Because of their no-glare properties, brown-tinted lenses can also improve visibility while driving.
Reduce glare, increase contrast

Gray/Green-Gray
Gray- and green-tinted lenses allow the wearer to see outdoor colors as they appear naturally, without glare or light pollution. These neutral tones are a popular choice and improve contrast, visibility, and depth perception. Tints can cover the entire lens or fade gradually from dark to light.
Better contrast, visibility; truer colors

Yellow/Rose
Yellow-tinted lenses neutralize blue light. The effect heightens contrast, making objects look sharper on hazy or cloudy days, when light is compromised. Red tints enhance color contrast and may improve visibility while driving. Some people prefer rose tints for comfortable prolonged wear.
