The OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation Partners with EssilorLuxottica Volunteers to Deliver Vision Care to Older Adults in Honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day
When The Vision Council Foundation rolled out the “Better Vision for Better Lives” campaign, we aimed to expand vision care access to communities in need while also building resources that educated the public about eye health. Through the support of our partners, we were able to achieve the goals we set out to accomplish and are excited to shine a light on the work of one of our Visionaries, EssilorLuxottica and its philanthropic arm, the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation.
The OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation is the world’s largest vision care non-profit striving to eliminate uncorrected poor vision in a generation. The Foundation drives this work through clinics that provide direct help as well as partnerships that strengthen and expand access to vision care.
Building on this commitment, the Foundation is partnering with EssilorLuxottica employee volunteers this January on an initiative that honors the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of compassion, service, and community uplift. Together, they will host a series of events that bring essential vision support to older adults in need at four EssilorLuxottica campuses across the United States.
The effort focuses on older adults who often experience the greatest barriers to vision care, including limited mobility, financial constraints, and reduced access to routine eye exams. Each event, held in Mason, OH, Dallas, TX, McDonough, GA, and New York City, aims to serve 125 individuals with free reading glasses and sunglasses as well as on-site eyeglass cleaning and repairs. For those needing full prescription eyewear, vouchers for free glasses will also be available. A properly selected pair of readers can dramatically improve quality of life by making it easier to read labels, manage paperwork, or enjoy a favorite book without strain. Sun protection and clean, functional eyewear also support long-term eye health and everyday safety. To extend the impact beyond a single day, any leftover glasses will remain with the community partner for continued charitable distribution.
The initiative is powered by EssilorLuxottica’s North America Business Resource Groups (BRGs), which are voluntary, employee-led associations where employees join in support of fostering a sense of belonging for people of all backgrounds and identities. BRGs bring employees together to engage in our shared commitment to inclusion, health, well-being, and belonging.
Each BRG selects a community partner aligned with its mission, and events are staffed by trained employee volunteers who support registration, reader selection, eyeglass cleaning and repairs, event coordination, and general assistance. Volunteers receive a toolkit and orientation to ensure smooth delivery, and each event follows a simple four-hour structure of setup, service, and cleanup.
Across the four campuses, the program is expected to reach approximately 500 older adults, with additional vision vouchers available for those needing further care. Beyond the numbers, the true impact lies in restored confidence, safer mobility, and improved independence. These small but meaningful changes ripple through daily life. This work also reinforces EssilorLuxottica’s core value of ‘We Care, Close to All, No Matter How Far’ and commitment to cultivating inclusivity by aligning BRG missions with service in the communities they champion.
As employees honor MLK Day through this hands-on outreach, they are continuing Dr. King’s vision of collective action and shared humanity while supporting the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation’s broader mission to help eliminate uncorrected poor vision in a generation.
The Vision Council Foundation is proud to be aligned with a like-minded organization that is dedicated to bringing accessible, quality eyecare products and services to those in need.
