November is National Scholarship Month and The Vision Council Foundation is excited to celebrate by shining a spotlight on our Opening Your Eyes Scholarship.
The Opening Your Eyes Scholarship is a fund designed to provide financial assistance to members of underrepresented communities interested in pursuing a career in the optical industry as a licensed optician. We partner with over a dozen opticianry programs within the United Opticians Association (UOA) to help fund scholarships, providing up to $6,000 towards tuition and certification exam fees.
As we head into the season of giving, let’s take a look at what some of our recipients have had to say about the financial assistance they’ve received on their journeys to become licensed opticians:
- “My gratitude goes to each and every one who supported the scholarship program. With your help and hard work, you made it possible for me to graduate.” – Aaron N.
- “Your generous contribution has enabled me to focus on my rigorous opticianry program studies as opposed to the weight of financial strain associated with furthering my professional aspirations and life’s obligations. So again, thank you. I am grateful for your generosity, and I look forward to making my mark in the eye-opening field of vision.” – Helki P.
- “While I have a great support system between faculty and family, not having to carry the financial burden on my own as a full-time student will help me realize my dream of a satisfying and fulfilling career as an optician. Thanks so much to The Vision Council.” – GurBea L.
- “I currently work at Lens Crafters as an Eye Care Advisor. I love my position and that is what drove more interest into starting school once again and making it into a career choice. Thank you for giving me this opportunity through your scholarship support.” – Liliana B.
Since its inception in 2021, The Opening Your Eyes Scholarship has provided assistance to and helped launch the careers of 16 newly licensed opticians across the country. The program is made possible by generous contributions from donors within the community. Kindly consider making a direct donation here.
