The Sun Sets on a Successful 2025 National Sunglasses Day Campaign

Early this past summer season, The Vision Council Foundation kicked off National Sunglasses Day celebrations with quite a few exciting announcements. From educational resources to new partnerships and events in the country’s two busiest cities, National Sunglasses Day 2025 shined a light on the importance of wearing UV-protective eyewear to safeguard long-term health.

Consumer Activations

The Vision Council Foundation welcomed AccuWeather, recognized and documented as the most accurate, most trusted, and most used source of weather forecasts and warnings in the world, as a supporter of National Sunglasses Day. The partnership is based on a shared goal to spread awareness of UV safety on National Sunglasses Day and all year long. In addition to advertisements on the AccuWeather website, television stations and mobile app, The Vision Council Foundation also added the AccuLumen® index to their homepage, an excellent resource to monitor the UV in your area.

The Vision Council Foundation hosted an event in NYC on the eve of National Sunglasses Day for media, influencers, and local optometrists and opticians. Guests attended a panel about the impacts of UV, explored the season’s hottest styles, and enjoyed refreshments and heard from experts in their respective fields:

  • Erinn Morgan, Envision Communication
  • Dr. Jennifer Stewart, Look New Canaan
  • Bill Wadell, AccuWeather
  • Kasia Idzkowska, Photographer & Artist

A special thank you goes out to our Visionary and Champion Foundation partners for making the event a success:

  • Visionary Sponsors – GUESS Eyewear, Marcolin, Silhouette, evil eye, ZEISS, Marchon & Altair Eyewear, EssilorLuxottica, National Vision
  • Champion Sponsors – OGI Eyewear, Kenmark Eyewear, Tura

On the holiday, June 27, The Vision Council Foundation partnered with the Boston Red Sox and handed out free sunglasses, accessories, and educational items during a baseball game at Fenway Park.

Spreading the Message

Ahead of the big day, The Vision Council created a digital promotional toolkit which garnered over 1,000 downloads. Retailers, eye doctors, brands and businesses alike were welcome to access the free fact sheets, sample social media copy, logos, print materials and more.

To elevate consumer awareness and education, The Vision Council Foundation issued several press releases leading up to National Sunglasses Day. Additionally, National Sunglasses Day was mentioned throughout June in numerous media outlets including MSN.com, USA Today, Associated Press, Forbes, AccuWeather, Daily Mail, Bloomberg, Vision Monday, Eyecare Business, Invision Magazine, 20/20 Magazine and more.

Sunglass-wearers everywhere were encouraged to celebrate the day by sharing a photo of themselves sporting their favorite shades using the hashtag #NationalSunglassesDay. Day-of social media results saw 67 million impressions and posts from Ryan Seacrest, Hello Kitty, National Air & Space Museum, and The Weather Channel.

Thank you to our members, The Vision Council Foundation supporters, and the industry at large for making the 2025 campaign a success.
