Whether you’re taking the afternoon to plant trees in your local park or picking up trash along the highway, everywhere you look, people are celebrating Earth Day in all different ways. These efforts, be it big or small, make all the difference in taking care of our planet. This Earth Day let’s take a look at the eyewear brands that are committed to making sustainable frames and reducing their impact on the environment.
Silhouette
A staunch supporter of sustainable eyewear, Silhouette has become a leader in the shift away from fossil fuels when it comes to eyewear design. Earlier this year, they welcomed Arizona Muse as brand ambassador for their Clear Sky collection. This set is the first of its kind to use “bio-circular” material, designed by Silhouette, that reduces emissions by 50%. Another collection, Vibrant Horizon, features frames that are created using technology that reduces material usage and waste, as well as conserving water throughout production. The brand continues to set the bar high for new, eco-friendly solutions.
Zenni Optical
Zenni Optical stepped into the spring season with their fresh line, EcoBloomz. Frames from this collection are made using upcycled plastic from water bottles or bio-based acetate crafted from natural, renewable materials like wood pulp, cotton, or castor bean oil. On top of manufacturing products in a way that reduces waste and lowers carbon emissions, a portion of sales also goes to the Wyland Foundation, an organization that protects the planet’s waters.
Article One
Article One recently announced their Spring 2025 collection just in time for Earth Day. Debuting both fresh optical and sunglass styles, some of these designs have been crafted using plant-based acetate in a way that promotes smaller-scale production and is easier on the environment. The company remains committed to encouraging long-term wear by creating quality performance eyewear from ethically sourced components. Shoppers can try on the latest styles using Article One’s Virtual Try-On.
Eyebuydirect
Introducing the latest of their sustainability efforts, is Eyebuydirect’s Material Matters Collection. Frames in this collection are made from greener materials, such as recycled metal and bio-based nylon, and are delivered with responsible packaging. They are also continuing to donate a portion of their proceeds to 1% for the Planet, a network of organizations that works to tackle environmental issues. This business is a supporter of the belief that small efforts can make a big difference, as is evidenced through their recycling initiative that donates returned frames through a non-profit.
